Miracle of Help is a charitable nonprofit that works with rural communities in Sierra Leone to improve health, expand local capacity, and create practical pathways to long-term social and economic stability.
Its community-led model begins with residents identifying their priorities and directly participating in designing and sustaining the response.
What It Does
Miracle of Help supports an interconnected range of health and development efforts centered in and around Ngolahun. Its work includes maternal and child healthcare, monthly pop-up clinics, malnutrition treatment, surgical support, clean-water projects, healthcare training and scholarships, agriculture, and community-based economic development.
The organization is also building a maternity hospital with surgical capacity. The facility is intended to extend care beyond the existing clinic and to strengthen local staffing, training, water, power, and operating systems.
Why It Matters
Rural communities in Sierra Leone face overlapping challenges: limited access to medical care, high maternal and child health risks, malnutrition, unreliable infrastructure, and few economic opportunities. Miracle of Help treats these needs as interconnected, not isolated.
By combining healthcare with local leadership, professional training, clean water, agriculture, and income-generating activities, the organization seeks to build solutions that communities can sustain over time.
HRX8 Connection
Miracle of Help was founded and is led by Dr. Risa Gold, a Harvard-Radcliffe '78 classmate who serves as the organization's president. It was HRX8's first Current Initiative.
Current Opportunity
Miracle of Help is working to complete and equip its maternity hospital and to strengthen the systems needed to operate it. Alumni support may be especially useful in:
